Tour 16: Pico Humboldt, La Travesia & Pico Bolivar Tour Prices
The ascent to Pico Bolivar (5007mts) and Humboldt (4942), the two highest mountains of Venezuela is a real challenge: the participants must be aware that this tour goes to an altitude of more than 5000 mts and that more than 6 days will be needed carrying heavy backpacks. That's why, it's important to have an excellent physical condition.
Course of the tour
Day1: Our experienced guide will drive us to La Mucuy, a national park station, where all the mountaineers will be register. From there, we'll begin the ascend. First, along the cloud forest and then along scanty vegetation. After 6 hours, we'll have reached Coromoto lake (above 1000mts). There, we'll put up our tents.
Day 2: Hike on screen with huge rocks, crossing el Quemado bridge. After 4 hours, we'll arrive at Laguna Verde(3900mts), the basis camp of Pico Humbodlt.
Day 3: After an introduction on the glacier climbing, we'll begin the ascent to Pico Humbolt. On the way to the peak, we'll pass by El Suero lake. After approx. 3 hours, we'll reach the foot of the glacier. After having reached the summit and having observed the beautiful landscape of the Roof of the Andes, we'll descend to Laguna el Suero or Laguna Verde.
Day 4: Return to Mérida or to the basis camp of Pico Bolivar at the Timosito Lake. Then, hike along the Travesia and arrival to the lake -passing by Pico Espejo- where we'll set up our next camp.
Day 5: The ascent to the highest mountain of Venezuela is just right in front of us. After 5 hours ascending, overcoming fields of snow and leaving behind some climbing passages, we have made it. We'll enjoy for a while the amazing view before we return. Overnight stay at the cable car station of Pico Espejo.
Day 6: Return with the cable car to Mérida.
Services:
English or German speaking guide, transportation, all meals, tent, cook, climbing equipment and radio support (if possible)
Equipment list:
Suitable and warm clothes, as well as for the rain, cap, gloves, sun protection (sun block and sunglasses), good climbing or trekking boots, sleeping bag (-15 C) + mat, drinking water, flashlight, backpack (if necessary, some of the equipment can be borrowed)
Important informations:
Being tolerant and having good head for heights are indispensable requirements if you want to climb Pico Humbodlt and Bolivar.
In some rare cases, it may happen that because of bad weather (very dangerous), the ascent to the summits in the forseen time may be not possible. The estimation of the situation will be decision of the mountain guide whose recommendation must be followed. In case this happens, this organization has any liability at all for the complete realization of the program and the tour participants don't have as far as it goes any claim for compensation.
